Camp Michigania Registration Guidelines

Camp Michigania-Walloon
Camp Michigania-East

Registration will be available online beginning December 15th. Additionally, brochures/reservation forms will be sent only to those who send a stamped, self-addressed, business-size envelope to Michigania, 03006 Camp Sherwood Road, Boyne City, Michigan 49712-9361 postmarked on or before December 31. Brochures will be mailed beginning December 15. Both types of applications will be treated equally. Online applications are preferred. Please use only one type of application.

With the exception of those entitled to special priority as outlined below, all reservations postmarked on or before January 15, as well as those applications received online on or before January 15, will receive equal priority. All reservations postmarked or submitted online after January 15 will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be admitted if there is a vacancy, or will be placed at the end of the wait list if there is no vacancy, for the chosen week.

To register for Camp Michigania, at least one member of each family must be a current member of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan. Cabin units will be assigned on the basis of one unit per reservation form. Cabin units contain one bathroom and one or two bedrooms. Spouses/domestic partners are entitled to one unit and may not apply separately. Members of “extended families” wishing to be assigned separate cabin units must fulfill the membership requirement and submit separate camp reservation forms.

"Alumni" membership status is available to those who have been regularly enrolled for at least one semester in a degree-granting program at the University of Michigan or have been designated as honorary alumni or granted an honorary degree by the regents.

"Associate" membership status is available to individuals who, although not alumni of the University of Michigan, have "shown an active and vital interest in the University and the Alumni Association." A letter describing the applicant’s qualifications must accompany applications for associate membership status. They are reviewed by the Association's membership staff on a case-by-case basis. Associate members who were members as of June 30, 1999, and have continually maintained said membership, and current and emeritus faculty and senior University staff will receive the same consideration as alumni members for participation in Alumni Association programs and services.

Associate members (excluding University faculty/staff) who joined (or rejoined) after June 30, 1999 are eligible to participate in Alumni Association programs and services after the interests of all alumni members and associate members as of June 30, 1999, have been accommodated. Michigania applications for these associate members will be processed beginning April 1st . All applications received prior to April 1st will receive equal priority, and those received after April 1st will be processed on a first come, first served basis. Exceptions may occur for those weeks with significant openings prior to the April 1st date.

Single-Family Registration Guidelines

Those families who are wait-listed and:

a) are not offered a vacancy in one of their chosen weeks will receive special priority the following year if their reservation forms are postmarked or submitted online on or before January 15.

b) accept an opening in any week, other than one of their chosen weeks, will receive special priority the following year if their reservation forms are postmarked or submitted online on or before January 15.

c) are offered a vacancy in one of their chosen weeks less than 30 days prior to the start of that week, but decline the offer, will receive special priority the following year if their reservation forms are postmarked or submitted online on or before January 15.

d) are offered a vacancy in one of their chosen weeks at least 30 days prior to the start of that week, but decline the offer, will receive no special priority if they register the following year.

e) are eventually confirmed in one of their chosen weeks will receive no special priority if they register the following year.

Group Registration Guidelines

1. Families may apply as a group. Each family within a group must complete a separate reservation form. All reservation forms must be submitted together in one envelope, or they may follow the group application procedures online.

2. The maximum number of families that may apply as a group is limited to the number of families that can be accommodated in one cabin or, in the case of “immediate” families (includes grandparents, parents, siblings and children only) , the number of immediate family members registering. At Michigania-Walloon, the largest cabins include three 2-bedroom units or two 2-bedroom and two 1-bedroom units.

3. If a group reservation is selected in the lottery, all families in the group will be confirmed. Once confirmed as a group, the families will receive no special priority if they apply the following year.

4. If a group reservation is not selected in the lottery, the families in the group will be placed individually on the wait-list after all wait-listed “single” families.

5. If one or more (but not all) of the waitlisted families that originally applied as part of a group are eventually confirmed as “single” families they:

a) will receive special priority the following year. However, they will lose that priority if any members of the group are not entitled to special priority. ( i.e., if one of the families in a group is not entitled to special priority, none of the families in the group is.)

b) will receive no special priority if they apply as a “single” family (not part of a group) the following year.

6. Families that originally applied as part of a group and are not confirmed (either because they are not offered a vacancy, or they decline an opening when offered because the entire group cannot be confirmed at that time) will receive special priority regardless of whether they apply as a “single” family or as part of a group the following year. However, they will lose that priority if they apply as part of a group that includes families who are not entitled to special priority. (i.e., if one of the families in a group is not entitled to special priority, none of the families in the group is.)
