May 2008 Welcome to “Inside Recruitment,” the monthly e-newsletter for Alumni Student Recruitment volunteers. It’s chock-full of helpful information and quick tips to aid you in your quest to recruit the “leaders and best.” Here’s what’s in this issue:
To ensure delivery of e-TrueBlue: Inside Recruitment to your inbox (not bulk or junk mail folder), please add malumni@umich.edu to your address book or safe list.
Admitted students rate welcome receptions, such as summer send-off parties, very highly, and we've made it easy to plan one. We've got tips for games, ice breakers and prizes. And don't forget to check first with your local alumni club to see what it's got cooking. No club in your area? Peruse the ASR directory and grab a few other volunteers to put something together to send off students in style. To better protect your contact information, the ASR directory is password protected. The password is goblue (all one word, case-sensitive). Remember, a party doesn't have to be big or elaborate. Just make everyone feel welcome. This was a great recruitment year for U-M, and we could not have done it without your hard work, support and "Go Blue!" enthusiasm. As a matter of record, we will assume that all current and recently added volunteers will remain with us for the 2008-09 cycle. Contact Monica at beccerram@umich.edu or 734.936.2784 if you have a change of address, email or other contact information or if you wish to add or make changes to your adopted schools. We still need county coordinators in these Michigan counties: Lake, Menominee, Midland, Missaukee, Osceola and Schoolcraft. Interested volunteers can join online. This is the last issue of e-TrueBlue: Inside Recruitment for the 2007-08 cycle. Monthly publication of the newsletter will resume Wednesday, September 24, as the 2008-09 recruitment cycle starts heating up. If you have questions during the summer, feel free to contact Jim at jvanheck@umich.edu or 734.936.3299, Phyllis at phtaylor@umich.edu or 734.764.2316, or Monica at beccerram@umich.edu or 734.936.2784. On a high note and with a bright light, we conclude our 2007-08 recruitment cycle by recognizing a very special person: Joe Cobane of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. Joe joined us in 2004 by adopting Grosse Pointe South High School, one of our top feeder schools in Michigan. He immediately went to work with the large counseling staff from the school, meeting them and establishing himself as the alumni contact for their students. The care and goodwill he provides to students and counselors is far beyond what we ever expected. All who know Joe will tell you he is a most dedicated and hard working alum who knows how to recruit. For your commitment, generosity and devotion, we ask you, Joe Cobane, to step up to center stage, take a bow and accept our heartfelt applause! This summer, many prospective students will start thinking about their application to U-M. For those who want to get a jump on writing their essays, the Admissions Office has released a sneak preview of the 2009 freshman application written responses. History shows that one reason seniors delay submitting their applications is because they are perfecting their written responses. If they spend time writing this summer, they won't have to worry about it this fall when all of their school year activities resume. When the application is available in mid-August, they can apply right away. In its tradition as the Leaders and Best, U-M is the first university to release a virtual, 3-D tour to give students and families the opportunity to experience our dynamic campus. Known as Vmerse, this tool allows visitors to explore campus, learn about U-M and meet others from the comfort of their home. Take the tour to experience campus in a whole new way! |
