2001 Alumni Club Award Winners 2000--01 Outstanding Club Award Winners The U-M Club of Downriver is the Outstanding Club Award winner for the Metro regions, which are areas of the country comprised of more than 6,000 alumni. The club offers a variety of events for area members, covering everything from football-watching parties to a dinner theater event to community service with the Riverview Police Department's child identification program. The U-M Club of Downriver notifies members of upcoming events via regular email messages, its AmazinNews publication and Web site and local cable TV stations. The Outstanding Club Award Winner for Region 5, 3,000-6,000 area alumni, is the U-M Club of Denver. The U-M Club of Denver was selected based on its wide range of activities, including sporting events, cultural events, happy hours and collaboration with other Big Ten clubs in the area. The club even organizes hikes of some of Colorado's 14,000 foot-high mountains! It also holds an annual ski and snowboard trip to an area ski resort, held over U-M's spring break so that current students may participate. For Region 4, with 2,000-3,000 area alumni, the Outstanding Club Award Winner is the U-M Club of Orange County, California. The club is very active in the areas of programming, scholarship, and student recruitment and also frequently collaborates on events with other clubs in their area. One highlight of the club's calendar is its annual holiday party. This year's event involved a boat cruise and a reception. The U-M Club of Michiana is the Outstanding Club Award winner for Region 3, 1,000--2,000 area alumni. The club has worked hard to coordinate a variety of unique programs that offer the opportunity for alumni from the U-M Clubs of Chicago, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis to unite. It consistently delivers a Michigan presence at area college fairs, community service venues and local athletic events--not always an easy task so close to the Fighting Irish. For Region 2, 500--1,000 area alumni, the Outstanding Club Award Winner is the U-M Club of Delaware. The club's biggest annual event is an outing to a local minor league baseball game with the local Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State alumni clubs. Members also enjoy numerous cultural events, including symphony concerts and theater outings, and participate in an annual blood drive with the Penn State and Ohio State clubs In Region 1, consisting of 500 or fewer area alumni, the U-M Club of Hilton Head was selected as the Outstanding Club Award Winner. Although Hilton Head is one of our smaller clubs, it has a wide range of programming. Activities last year included a welcome back picnic for returning snowbirds, a wine tasting, a theater outing and a sunset boat cruise.
