Alumni Club Award Winners

Each year the Alumni Association recognizes a few of our best alumni clubs for overall achievement—the quality of their programming, money raised for scholarship funds and member participation. The Outstanding Club Award Winner for the Metro region, comprised of clubs in areas with more than 6,000 alumni, is the U of M Club of Greater Lansing.

The Lansing club exceeded expectations in the programming area by hosting an active and diverse calendar of events that engaged a wide range of alumni with different interests.  This calendar included an impressive array of athletic, cultural, social, educational, and community service events.  The club’s activities in the areas of scholarship and, especially, student recruitment were outstanding, a shining example for other clubs.  The creative initiative the club demonstrated in overhauling and upgrading its student recruitment efforts in the Lansing area was truly award-worthy in itself.  The club has worked diligently to increase membership value to area alumni and has made good use of communications tools to advertise club events, programs, and services. 

The Outstanding Club Award Winner for Region 5, comprised of clubs in areas with 3,000 to 6,000 area alumni, is the U of M Club of of Denver.

The Denver club continues to excel in event programming through your creative use of your Rocky Mountain location and area resources.  The club’s activities in the areas of scholarship and student recruitment were impressive.  The club also does an excellent job of communicating with its members utilizing the listserv, regional e-TrueBlue, the website and even through MySpace.  In the area of leadership development, the Denver club has a succession structure and a development plan which creates opportunities for and encourages new volunteers.

For Region 4, comprised of clubs with 2,000 to 3,000 area alumni, the Outstanding Club Award goes to the U of M Club of Greater Phoenix.

The Phoenix club hosted a wide range of athletic, social and cultural events to engage U-M alumni. The club's scholarship program, complete with the additional mentoring the club provides, serves as a wonderful example for other clubs. As for membership, the club excels in reaching out to all alumni and encourages new volunteers to become active in the club and its leadership. The club has also utilized alternative methods of payment, such as PayPal, to streamline your business practices and better accommodate your area alumni.

The U of M Club of Palm Beaches is the Outstanding Club Award winner for Region 3, comprised of clubs with 1,000-2,000 area alumni.

The Palm Beaches club is improving in the programming area by planning events that engage a wide range of alumni with different interests, and these efforts have also worked toward increasing your membership value for area alumni. As for public relations and promotion, the club has made strides toward improving their marketing efforts and utilizing the club Web site, MAC and regional e-TrueBlue. The club exhibited its creativity and innovation in the hosting of a new football-watching party for families.

The Outstanding Club Award winner for Region 2, comprised of clubs with 500 to 1,000 alumni in their area, is the U of M Club of Manistee.

The Manistee club improved in the programming area by planning events that engage area alumni with differing interests. The club’s activities in the areas of scholarship and student recruitment were also outstanding, especially with the success of the family-oriented student picnic. Your continued efforts to add a personal touch to promote club membership to your snowbird population are key to the success of the club. As for public relations and promotion, the Manistee club has done an impressive job utilizing the Web site, regional e-TrueBlue, the supplemental mailing, as well as your press releases to area newspapers.

In Region 1, comprised of clubs in areas with fewer than 500 local alumni, the Outstanding Club Award goes to the U of M Club of Hilton Head.

The Hilton Head club continues to demonstrate high energy in the programming area through its efforts to engage local alumni with differing interests.  The club’s activities in the areas of scholarship and student recruitment were also outstanding.  As for your efforts in the area of membership, the Hilton Head club is a perennial model for other clubs with a whopping 56% of area alumni as Alumni Association members.  Despite its limited resources and small number of area alumni, the club reveals its innovation by organizing diverse events, reaching out to new members, and encouraging new volunteers to get involved.
