2002-03 Outstanding Club Award Winners The Outstanding Club Award Winner for the Metro regions, which is clubs in areas with more than 6,000 alumni, is the U of M Club of Washington, DC. The D.C. club had another active and diverse programming schedule this past year, which included speakers, happy hours, hiking trips, and recreational sports leagues. They are also a model for all clubs in the areas of scholarship, student recruitment, and membership recruitment efforts. The Club's extensive use of AAUM resources is a testament to their efforts to enhance the visibility of not only the club, but the University of Michigan and the Alumni Association as well. The Outstanding Club Award Winner for Region 5, which is clubs in areas with 3,000 to 6,000 area alumni, is the U of M Club of Denver. The club has devoted its energy to connecting Michigan alumni from all over Colorado by providing a wide range of activities that appeal to alumni of all ages. In addition to its traditional events, the club added several new activities this past year, including an extreme bowling event, a family zoo outing and attended a Colorado MusicFest concert in Boulder. The Club's activities in the areas of scholarship and student recruitment were also outstanding and can serve as a model for all clubs looking to recruit students to the University of Michigan. For Region 4, which is clubs with 2,000 to 3,000 area alumni, the Outstanding Club Award goes to the U of M Club of Orange County. The Orange County Club excelled in the programming area both in the sheer numbers of planned events and in the diversity of those events. The Club's events engage a wide range of alumni with different interests and serves as a model to other clubs to plan events for all alumni, men and women, young and old. The clubs use of AAUM resources shows their commitment to expanding the visibility of not only the club, but the University of Michigan and the Alumni Association as well. The Club has a finely tuned succession structure and leadership development plan which creates opportunities for new leadership development. The U of M Club of Michiana is the Outstanding Club Award winner for Region 3, 1,000-2,000 area alumni. The Club is being recognized for a number of reasons. First they excelled in the programming area by conducting interest surveys and planning events that engage a wide range of alumni with different interests. Second, the club's activities in the areas of scholarship and student recruitment were outstanding. Additionally, the Manistee Club's thoughtful planning of events increased membership to both the Club and the Alumni Association. The Club has also made impressive strides toward improving their marketing efforts and utilizing AAUM resources. And lastly, the club has a well established committee structure which upholds a sense of leadership continuity and development. The Outstanding Club Award winner for Region 2, which consists of clubs with 500 to 1,000 alumni in their area, is the U of M Club of Delaware. The Delaware Club excelled in the programming area by planning social and cultural events that engage a wide range of alumni with different interests. Their activities in the areas of scholarship and student recruitment were outstanding. The Delaware Club has also done an impressive job utilizing AAUM resources, in addition to many other special event direct mailings, to reach out to local members and alumni. In Region 1, which is clubs in areas with fewer than 500 local alumni, the Outstanding Club Award goes to the U of M Club of Sun Cities and West Valley. The club's programs include a variety of speakers, entertainment, and outings. This has resulted in high attendance and enthusiastic participation among club members. The clubs efforts to improve their marketing and utilizing AAUM resources have been very successful. Additionally, the Sun Cities & West Valley club has a proven succession plan which creates opportunities for new leadership development. 2002-03 Awards of Excellence Winners Programming: U
