China Earthquake Information The Alumni Association and the entire U-M community are saddened by the news of the Sichuan, China, earthquake on May 12, 2008. Alumni are asked to be helpful to our extended alumni family in China in whatever way they can. Please contact the Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) for further information or to offer assistance: http://www.ii.umich.edu/ccs Campus Messages of Support One of our faculty told me he was speaking on the phone with his parents in Sichuan at the exact moment the quake occurred. I can’t begin to imagine the horror he felt at the time. While his parents stayed outside of their home for two days, they have now returned and find the home in good shape. That is one of the more fortunate outcomes of this devastating event. Our hearts go out to our friends and family in China." Dean Warner's message concluded with information about how to assist through international agencies. How You Can Help You can make a public pledge of support for the Chinese people by going to this matching link site on Pledgebank: http://www.pledgebank.com/chinaquake The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) is calling for cash donations at this stage. Cash donations to RCSC can be made as follows:
The National Committee on US-China Relations has posted a list of organizations accepting donations And the China Data Center has joined with the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science of the Chinese University of Hong Kong to create a Web site as a preliminary effort to give initial assessment on the current and potential impacts of the recent earthquake in China.
